  4. My absolute favorite thing to teach in math is area and perimeter. To be honest, I also think they work perfectly with my fourth grade standards! I first explain the concept of perimeter and we brainstorm situations when we would need to know the perimeter of something. In the past I used geoboards to introduce perimeter, but they always created a little confusion, because students wanted to count the pegs, rather than the sides.
